Cooling Refrigerants of the Future. Stored in your air conditioner’s coils, refrigerants are liquids that cool and dehumidify your air. If we didn’t have refrigerants, we wouldn’t have air conditioning. For years, the most common AC refrigerant was R-22 (Freon), but in 2012 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandated the phase-out of R-22 through the Clean Air Act. By 2020, R-22 will no longer be legal to produce because of its damage to the environment. Introducing R-410A To reduce environmental impacts, all Lennox® products are now compatible with the new R-410A AC refrigerant. R-410A is EPA-recognized and contains no chlorine, making it ozone-friendly. You can feel great about using this refrigerant in Colfax because it’ll help make your AC perform efficiently, reliably and quietly, and deliver the same cool comfort in the warmer months. Additional Considerations If your AC or heat pump was made anytime before 2010, it may not be R-410A-compatible. You probably should think about upgrading your cooling system before R-22 is totally out of production. The old refrigerant will become scarce in the next few years, costing you more to use your system effectively. The Lennox products we offer at Ackerman Heating & Air Conditioning work with R-410A, so you can be sure we have an AC or heat pump you can better rely on. Additionally, refrain from using”alternate refrigerants that claim to work in R-22 systems. These include R-407C, R-438A and R-422, all of which can actually compromise your system’s performance.
